Social and cultural programme
The social program (Wednesday, 26th of June 2019) consists of two different options for the morning (A & B) and one afternoon program.
You will be asked to book your social activity when registering for the conference on https://www.conftool.com/iieolc2019/ (choice is binding).
Persons who have registered for the social events offered will receive detailed information on the chosen excursion upon arrival.
Morning option A: Isole di Brissago (Brissago Islands)
Starting from the port of Ascona we will take a ship that will bring us to the Brissago Islands in approximately 15 minutes.
There we will get a guided tour where we will learn about the island and enjoy its impressive botanical garden.
We end our stroll in the island’s restaurant where we will enjoy lunch, before taking a ship back to the port of Locarno (30 minutes).
This trip costs 80CHF. Both boats, the tour and lunch are included.

Morning option B: Canyoning in the Verzasca valley
For the more adventurous we provide the option of a canyoning trip which is suited for beginners.
We will start around 8am and drive to the starting point in Cresciano. From there we will start our trip through the Verzasca river (2-3 hours). In the canyon, there are several natural slides, abseils and optional jumps.
Requirements for this trip are: Healthy physical condition, swimming ability, sure-footedness and freedom from vertigo.
This trip costs 160 CHF. All the equipment you need for this trip, transport and Snacks are included.
A hard-wearing T-shirt must be brought along for the access to the canyon.
We will be back at hotel Monté Verita between 4:30 and 6:00 and a ticino ticket is needed for the train.

Afternoon: The gardens in and around Ascona
We will meet in Locarno in the early afternoon. We will walk for about ten minutes until we reach our first stop, the Jean-Arp-Garden, where we will have a guided tour around the grounds and learn about the artist and his work in the region of Ascona.
We continue our walk along the lake site for about 15 minutes and visit the “Parco della Pace” and the “Parco delle Camelie” which shows around 900 different varieties of camellias.
Finally, we walk back to the starting point in Ascona, along the Maggia river.
The afternoon walk with entrance and tour of both parks costs 20CHF.
